The AFC West clearly had a down year last year with San Diego escaping with the division crown at 8-8. The Chargers edged out the Broncos on the last game of the season after starting 5-8, since that point those two teams have went in opposite directions the Chargers advanced to the AFC divisional round only to lose out to the eventual Super Bowl champion Steelers. The Broncos meanwhile promptly fired their longtime coach Mike Shanahan after their late season collapse and traded their up and coming quarter back Jay Cutler

The Chiefs will retire the number of the late Hall of Fame linebacker Derrick Thomas during a ceremony on December 6th as the team takes on the Denver Broncos. Thomas’ family will also be presented his Pro Football Hall of Fame ring at halftime of the Denver game at Arrowhead Stadium. It’s fitting that the ceremony will take place as Kansas City faces an AFC West rival whose Hall of Fame quarterback Thomas frequently bedeviled.

PFT.com reports that the waiver claim the team put in on former Falcons OT Renardo Foster has been approved, and the team was awarded his rights today: Days after submitting a waiver claim on former Atlanta Falcons offensive tackle Renardo Foster, the St. Louis Rams were awarded his rights today over the Denver Broncos. Both teams had placed waiver claims on Foster with the Rams winning out due to their inferior 2008 record.

The Broncos makeover of their 2008 roster continued on Thursday, as the team announced the release of linebackers Boss Bailey and Louis Green along with safety Herana-Daze Jones and also waived RB Kestahn Moore and CB Rashod Moulton. Bailey played just one season with the club, coming over as a free agent on March 6th of last year.
